TORONTO, ON — October 20, 2025 — Lulaworld Records is proud to announce that the acclaimed Cuban-Canadian percussionist Joaquín Núñez and his explosive ensemble, Havana Safary, have been honored with the Album of the Year award at the tenth edition of the prestigious Latin Awards Canada 2025.
The winning album, “Ruta de la Clave” (The Clave Route), is a masterpiece of Afro-Cuban jazz and Latin music. Released in May 2025, the record traces the evolution of Cuban music through its essential heartbeat—the clave—blending traditional rhythms with contemporary arrangements and an infectious energy that has resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike.
Joaquín Núñez, a Juno Award winner and musician with an extensive career, expressed his profound gratitude: "This award is an immense honor and a celebration of the work of all the musicians who collaborated on 'Ruta de la Clave.' It is a testament to the strength of Latin music in Canada and how our rhythms can build bridges between cultures. Thank you to the Latin Awards Canada and to everyone who supported us."
“Ruta de la Clave” stands out for its musical excellence, which includes stellar collaborations such as with pianist Dayramir González. The album offers a sonic journey from the danzón to the rumba de solar, redefining the genre and projecting unmistakable Hispanic-Canadian talent globally.
The Latin Awards Canada, which celebrates Latin art and culture in the country, recognizes with this award the boldness and quality of a production that has become a benchmark for the new generation of Latin music in North America.
