Selcuk Suna – The Space Between

The Space Between, the new full-length album from Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist Selcuk Suna, is a textured, cross-cultural journey that bridges the sonic and emotional landscapes of Turkey and Canada. Anchored by Suna’s expressive clarinet, soprano saxophone, and vocals, the album fuses traditional Turkish influences with elements of jazz, classical, and contemporary global music.

Reflecting Suna’s experience as an artist living and working in and across two cultures, the album explores the “spaces between”—between memory and the present, tradition and reinvention, home and diaspora.

Tracks such as “Galata” evoke the energy of Istanbul’s storied streets, while the title track, produced by Tyler Emond (who also contributes bass, guitar, and keys), captures the spirit of Toronto’s ever-evolving global music scene.

The album features a lineup of acclaimed collaborators including Demetrios Petsalakis (oud, baglama, keyboards), Jessica Hana Deutsch (strings), Matias Recharte (drums), Mehmet Akyazi (percussion), Marito Marques, Tara Moneka, and İskender Paydaş.

The Space Between follows Suna’s critically acclaimed 2018 debut Turkish Standards / Non-standard and was made possible with support from the Ontario Arts Council.

It will be celebrated with a release concert at Lula Lounge on May 28 as part ofthe20255 Lulaworld Festival, alongside the latest album by Fethi Nadjem.
